RE: Help - No front airbag in Omaha

Your dealer is correct. I have a friend with a p30 chassis that lost the front airbag in IL. He let the air out of the other side, lightened the load and drove back to NM no problem. Good luck JT

Pac Brake

I have an older Newmar Mountainaire Spartan chassis with a Pac Brake. This is my first DP and my first Pac Brake setup. I was not impressed with the operation of the Pac Brake. I did not like the inability to coast with the system on. I researched the Brake Switch and thought it would be an advantage to have the Pac Brake apply with the MH brake system allowing the MH to coast, what I did not like was having to partially apply the brakes on a down grade. I decided to install a SPDT center off switch in the Pac Brake power feed. In one position the Pac Brake works via the the accelerator pedal. In the other position the Pac Brake works via the brake pedal (a relay receives a signal from the brake light circuit and applies power to the Pac Brake system). The center position allows me to turn the system off. Now I can select the operation mode that suits me, without having to turn the system on or off. Total cost less than $20.00 and 2 hours of my time.

RE: Breakdown Information

1995
Newmar Mountain Aire
21000 miles
Cummins c8.3
Spartan chassis
Problem. Shift lite inop, Tail id lites inop. Found worn broken wires in the harness that connects the instrument panel to the front electrical box. When the left headlite assembly was installed the harness was pushed and pinched against the air fitting on the front air manifold. Travel vibration caused the harness to wear through the harness wrapping and two wires causing the problem. The broken wires were spliced, the harness rewrapped and repositioned.

Mountainaire windshield

I recently purchased a 1995 Mountainaire on a Spartan chassis / c8.3.
During my recent trip to Quartzsite the windshields popped loose, both
sides upper outside. I was able to work the rubber gasket back into
place. Shortly thereafter as I was entering a fuel station in
Quartzsite I went over a bump, the coach twisted and the windshield
popped loose again. Again I was able to reset the rubber enough to make it back to NM. Question,I recall seeing somewhere that Newmar had
problems of this sort on some models. Does anyone know about this or
what can be done to eliminate the problem. thanks

RE: Install remote fuel filter

I installed a two fuel filter adapter on my 95 8.3. I got the adapter from Cummins. Easy installation. What I don't like is the fact that I still have to access the water separator drain from under the bed. I am looking to add a remote water separator prior to the lift pump with easier access.

RE: DP Radiator Hose Change - Secrets?

Sears carries a cotter pin removal tool. Works well as a hose removal tool. Very similar in design to the previous post tool

RE: Slide out gear motors

I got my transtorque bushing from the Newmar dealer in Mesa Az. He had it in stock. He also has the gear box in stock. The Albuquerque Newmar dealer had no Newmar parts. It took them 2 weeks to find the transtorque bushing. The mesa dealer sent it to me in 2 days. JT
